Goose Girl #5

When I read the book, I thought a lot about friendship and betrayal. Who do you think were true friends to Ani and why?

  1. I think for sure her dad. I felt so sad when he died. He let her be who she was and I think that was hard for her after he died to feel comfortable with who she was as a person, not just as a daughter in a royal line.
Also, her aunt. She really wanted to teach her something valuable that she thought would help her in her life. I kept thinking that the queen just lied about her aunt dying so that she could keep them apart and that the aunt would come back. Again, I was wrong.
I think she had true friends in the mother she met in the forest that helped her. Although I don't think that the mother would have thought of it that way (certainly not at first). She was willing to help her even when she didn't know or believe all of the reasons.
I also think that Enna was a true friend to her, as well as Geric. They were nonjudemental and loyal to her. Others came along after a while too, but not until they knew enough to feel safe in befriending her.

  2. I think it's funny that Lisa thought the aunt was just sent away, because I thought the same thing too. I kept waiting for her to come back and I think she was a true friend to her. Enna and the group that she stayed with really stayed by her side and wouldn't hardly let her out of their sights by the end. Also, the gaurd (I can't remember his name) that had the ring. He was dedicated to saving her the whole book. It was neat to see so many people take care of her.

  3. I think that Ani found out that true friends are loyal to you no matter where you come from and no matter what your background. She was lucky to have good friends like her aunt, Enna and the people Ani met with her, and Geric.

  4. Enna & Geric & Conrad.

Enna because she believed in Ani even before knowing the truth. She brought out the best in her and was still honest always. Geric because he loved and saw her for herself on the inside and stayed true to that throughout. And Conrad because, even though they went through rocky parts, he knew her and over time chose to stay by her. I often feel like the best relationships or friendships come after being tried and tested by difficult things, but still make it through.
