The Gable Faces East - Question #4

4- How did you feel about Alexa's marriage decisions?

  1. I thought Alexa was much too hasty getting married to Richard. She had way too many unanswered questions with Jess to just jump into another marriage. She needed to break down her own barriers and and Jess's and let Jess know that as a friend she could handle anything he wanted to tell her. I think she mostly chose the marriage to Richard out of desperation - she was frustrated that Jess wouldn't open up to her. She did care a lot about Richard, but without the passion that she felt for Jess, it was a tragedy just waiting to happen. I wonder if she would have cheated on Richard and gone back to Jess if and when Jess really opened up to her. It was a risky and hasty marriage in my mind.

  2. I agree with mom. Though I think the point of her marriage to Richard was that she was ready to commit and knew that was never going to be an option with Jess until he changed. I love the line in the book that Richard gives when he says that only circumstances can change a man. I agree with that.

  4. I didn't like the marriage to Richard either. I was glad that Richard got to be loved and appreciated, but the way he was depicted in the book made me think that would have happened for him anyway. I like to tell Zac what I'm thinking and how I feel and it is hard for me to imagine not being able to communicate like that. It made me a little frustrated.

  5. Hated it completely. The marriage seemed dishonest, dirty and just wrong. If she wanted to be married and didn't think Jess would, she should have moved on and started searching for love again instead of marrying Richard. He shouldn't have married her either because he knew she didn't really love him the same. yuck
