The Gable Faces East - Question #5

5- I was often shocked at how good a man & friend Richard was to Alexa and to Jess. How do you feel about him & about friendship that runs so deep?

  1. I do think Richard was a good friend - however, if he was a really true friend, I don't think he would have pursued Alexa. He knew how Jess felt about Alexa and how Alexa felt about Jess. As true friend, he should have left that relationship alone. He went after Alexa in more subtle ways in the beginning, but he went after her nonetheless. A true friend would not have interfered.

  2. I think because of his situation in life with being burned so badly that he had almost resigned himself to never feeling truly loved and when Alexa came along and loved him so genuinely he was so happy and fulfilled just by being truly accepted that he put up with a lot. I don't know if I could have done that.

  3. He was really good to Jess. However, I think that he knew that there was real love between Jess and her and I just still have a hard time wrapping my mind/heart around his decision to marry her.

  4. I had a hard time with Richard marrying Alexa too, but I really felt like he tried to give them both a chance to be honest with each other. I didn't like him not talking to Jess about the marriage first, but I feel like he was a pretty understanding guy about everything.

  5. I don't really consider him a good friend to them but I get that he is supposed to come off that way. He seemed nice and connected to Jess in a strong friendship because of the fire and their past. He should have just stepped back and been a real friend instead of pursueing and marrying Alexa. He should take a class in good friend being.
